District & Sessions Court, Jodhpur
The District & Sessions Court at Jodhpur is the principal trial court of the district — it hears sessions-triable criminal cases, bail in serious matters, and civil suits above the magistrate's pecuniary limit.
This is where most criminal matters in Jodhpur are actually decided. Bail is the reason most families come here for the first time, usually within a day of an arrest, usually without knowing which court they are standing in.
Two things are worth knowing before you arrive. First, bail is ordinarily moved before the Sessions Court before the High Court — going straight up is refused as a matter of course, except in specific situations. Second, the application is decided largely on the FIR, the sections invoked and the case diary. What the family says outside the courtroom does not enter the record.
If arrest has not happened yet but is expected, anticipatory bail can be moved here. Timing is a real strategic question and not always 'as early as possible' — moving before an FIR is registered can be premature, and moving after arrest is too late.
